Tom Cruise to receive AFI Life Achievement Award

The American Film Institute will give Tom Cruise its Life Achievement Award for his work in film.

The award will be presented at a gala at Los Angeles' Dolby Theatre on April 24 next year.

The AFI has given the award since 1973 to people whose work has advanced film and stood the test of time.

Cruise has worked in movies for more than four decades, acting in films such as “Jerry Maguire” and the “Mission: Impossible” series, and producing films including “Top Gun: Maverick.”

He has three acting Oscar nominations and received an honorary Oscar last year.

The honor recognizes a career spanning acting and producing, and Cruise will join past recipients including Bette Davis, Steven Spielberg and Nicole Kidman.

Gala proceeds will support AFI education and arts initiatives.
