Group in Solo urges Jokowi to ask Gibran to resign as vice-president
A group calling itself Pejuang Merah Putih Indonesia went to Joko Widodo’s home in Solo on Wednesday to deliver two letters.
The group asked the former president to urge his son, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, to resign as vice-president.
It warned that Gibran could face impeachment if he stayed in office, and also objected to how questions about the pair’s diplomas had been described.
The dispute has drawn attention because the Constitutional Court found no evidence of Gibran’s high-school-equivalent diploma in the hearing, but said the issue was for other institutions to handle.
The court did not disqualify Gibran, and it rejected a separate election petition because the applicants lacked legal standing.
Gibran’s candidacy had also faced controversy because he was under 40 when he registered; a court ruling allowed candidates under 40 who had held elected regional office to run.
The group said it planned to raise its concerns at a meeting with Solo’s city council, and no official response from Jokowi or his representatives had been reported.

What people are saying
Therefore, we ask you to be willing to force Gibran Rakabuming Raka to step down from the position of Vice-President of the Republic of Indonesia so that impeachment does not happen, which would of course be very embarrassing and undermine dignity.
Do not accuse those asking about the status of your diploma and that of Gibran Rakabuming Raka of being part of a political operation or of being stowaways.
If you want to meet the President, you can. Please join the queue with the other residents.
After this, we will go straight to the Surakarta DPRD office for a hearing.
