Monei adds Apple Tap to Pay for iPhone to its payment service
Spanish payments company Monei has added Apple’s Tap to Pay on iPhone for its business customers.
The service lets a shop accept a contactless card or other contactless payment by having the customer tap it against the shop’s iPhone.
No separate payment terminal is needed, and the payment is processed using the phone’s NFC technology.
Monei says its 5,000 customers can start using the service through MONEI Pay if they have an iPhone XS or later with the latest iOS.
Apple says it does not store card numbers on its servers when a payment is processed.
Monei is also seeking a higher payment licence in Spain as it works toward becoming a bank focused on small businesses and shops.
The company plans to expand in Europe and Latin America, starting with Chile as a pilot market; it says Turkey could later serve as a link between Europe and Asia.
