German man arrested over alleged online coercion of US teen

German police arrested an 18-year-old man in Hamburg over allegations involving a 14-year-old girl in Indiana, in the United States.

Prosecutors say he contacted her through Discord while he was still 17, between September and October.

They allege he pressured the girl to cut herself, write group initials in blood and send him videos.

The girl died by suicide in her bedroom a few days later, according to prosecutors.

They say the suspect then tried to obtain a video of her death, hoping it would help him gain status or entry in the group.

The group is linked to a wider online network whose members are accused of manipulating vulnerable young people into self-harm or sexual acts.

An FBI tip helped prompt the investigation, and German authorities are also pursuing a separate case involving an alleged NMK member.
