China sets 2030 target of 8 trillion yuan for resource recycling

China sets 2030 target of 8 trillion yuan for resource recycling

A circular economy conference in Fengcheng, Jiangxi, on October 14 highlighted ways to turn discarded materials into useful products.

China’s recycling industry is expanding as old appliances are dismantled for metals and recycled plastic is made into clothing.

In 2025, the country recycled more than 410 million tonnes of major types of resources, and the industry’s output value reached 5 trillion yuan.

The government aims for 8 trillion yuan by 2030, under targets set out in its circular economy plans.

The approach is intended to reduce waste and pollution while making better use of resources and supporting national resource security.

China Resources Recycling Group was established in 2024 to build a nationwide platform for collecting and reusing resources.

The new targets and plans are intended to guide further growth in recycling and resource reuse.
