Six German postal competitors combine services for national business customers
Six postal competitors in Germany have formed a joint company called Deutschlandversand to handle national business customers.
The shareholders include Citipost, Südwest-Mail and four other companies, which will each hold an equal share.
Deutsche Post currently has 87% of Germany’s letter-market revenue, while the rest is divided among regional competitors.
Letter volumes are falling as more communication moves online, putting pressure on postal companies’ costs.
Deutschlandversand will give banks, insurers and government agencies one contact and access to a shared delivery network.
It will also take over insolvent letter carrier dvs and delivery company Xendis, which operates in North Rhine-Westphalia.
The competitors previously used two systems to exchange letters; they plan to use one network to improve efficiency and expand national delivery.
