Herchcovitch and Forca show contrasting styles at São Paulo Fashion Week

Alexandre Herchcovitch opened São Paulo Fashion Week on Tuesday with a collection mixing romantic and dark looks.

The show drew lightly on the late 19th and early 20th centuries, combining gothic pieces, streetwear and dresses in lace and shiny fabrics.

Herchcovitch said he wants the freedom to create different styles at once and to serve customers with varied tastes.

Forca, a four-year-old label, presented a punk-inspired collection after race cars performed stunts in the Pacaembu stadium parking area.

Its models wore torn or scorched-looking clothes, leather and studs, with heavy boots and bags made from tires.

Creative director Silvio De Marchi said the collection was about protecting an inner sanctuary from a chaotic and exhausting world.

The shows highlighted two sharply different approaches at the fashion week, which began with Herchcovitch's presentation.
