Fake X account impersonates Mexico’s electoral chief amid contractor controversy
A fake X account posing as Guadalupe Taddei appeared in Mexico on Saturday, October 24.
Taddei leads the National Electoral Institute, known as the INE, and the account had a misspelled username and only one post.
The post claimed the executive branch was pressuring the INE and said Taddei supported stricter rules for election candidates, but it was not a genuine statement from her.
The account appeared amid scrutiny of Taddei’s ties to an INE contractor, Cajas Graf, and possible irregularities and conflicts of interest in contract awards.
The controversy grew after a video showed the contractor’s legal representative with Taddei’s son in a Paris hotel.
Taddei said she would not comment on the matter, announced changes in senior administrative and executive roles, and said authorities would provide updates on the investigation.
A fake X account impersonating Mexico’s electoral chief, Guadalupe Taddei, appeared amid controversy over her links to a contractor for the National Electoral Institute.
The account displayed a blue verification badge but misspelled Taddei’s name as “GuadaLupe Tadei.”
Its only post alleged pressure from the executive branch and discussed electoral candidacy requirements.
The account’s appearance followed the circulation of a video showing the contractor with Taddei’s son.
