Turkey to trace returned funds and assess legal responsibility

Turkey’s Justice Minister Akın Gürlek says returned money must reach its rightful owners in investigations into funds.

The cases are being handled by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, which is examining transactions linked to the investigations.

Investigators will check the source, timing and amount of repayments and how the money is delivered to those entitled to it.

Voluntary repayments do not remove legal responsibility for people or organizations, and they will not stop investigators from assessing evidence.

The government says the investigations aim to protect investors and public confidence in capital markets while identifying unlawful gains.

Authorities may impose further asset restrictions if new evidence supports them, and they say they will continue coordinating with relevant institutions.
