Renfe train drivers call 24-hour strike for October 29

Renfe train drivers call 24-hour strike for October 29

Semaf has called a 24-hour strike across Renfe Group for October 29, involving all train drivers.

The union says agreements on rail safety and other issues remain administratively stalled, despite a recent meeting with Renfe, the Transport Ministry, Adif and the rail safety agency.

Drivers want binding procedures for severe weather alerts, clearer safety communications and technical fixes to train reliability problems.

They also seek changes to working-time rules, retirement arrangements and how new drivers are hired.

Renfe says it has fulfilled its commitments under an agreement made in February, including measures on hiring and maintenance.

It says 17 of 24 measures outside its direct responsibility are complete, while work continues on the other seven.

The strike is scheduled for October 29, and Renfe says it regrets the possible impact on passengers.
