Taiwan plans Texas industrial park for chip supply-chain firms
Taiwan plans a Texas industrial park to help smaller Taiwanese manufacturers supply US chip and AI hardware companies.
The proposed project is expected to cost between $2 billion and $4 billion, though another account says Taiwan is seeking at least $4 billion.
Private businesses are expected to fund the project, with Taiwan’s government offering loan guarantees and administrative support.
The park would bring suppliers closer to companies such as TSMC and Foxconn, which make chips and assemble electronic equipment.
The aim is to make supply chains easier to coordinate and help smaller suppliers set up US operations.
The Texas site is the first of several industrial parks Taiwan is considering, with other possible locations including Arizona, Mexico, Poland and India.
Taiwan has not announced a construction schedule or named participating suppliers, and says it will provide more details later.
