Soviet war cemetery in Leusden vandalised again

Soviet war cemetery in Leusden vandalised again

The Soviet Ereveld in Leusden was vandalised again, with paint put on its monument and memorial wall.

The graffiti included anti-communist slogans and the words “Fuck refugees.”

The cemetery was also defaced in July, when paint was put on 150 graves as well as the monument and wall.

The site is the burial place of 865 Second World War victims, including Red Army soldiers, prisoners of war, forced labourers and deserters.

Some died from hunger, illness or exhaustion, while others were executed.

Police do not yet know who carried out the latest vandalism, and the cemetery foundation says it is consulting with the authorities.

The foundation says it wants to prevent further attacks and continue commemorating the dead respectfully.
