Indonesia Exchange Removes 81 High-Concentration Stocks From IHSG

Starting November 2, Indonesia’s exchange will remove 81 stocks from the IHSG.

The stocks are classified as having high shareholding concentration, meaning ownership is concentrated among a small number of shareholders.

Their combined weight, about 18% of the index, will be redistributed among the other stocks that remain in it.

The exchange says this change will not reduce the market’s total capitalization, because those companies remain listed and their value still counts in the overall market.

The exchange expects the change to make the IHSG a more credible measure of the market for investors tracking share prices.

It says the index’s movement after the change will depend on price changes among its remaining stocks.

We have backtested that excluding HSC stocks will not cause a jump, but can make our IHSG more credible and better for investors to use in tracking our index.

Excluding HSC from the IHSG will not reduce the overall market capitalization. HSC stocks are only excluded from the IHSG calculation.
