India names Test squad for New Zealand series, with Akash Deep returning

India has named its Test squad for a two-match series in New Zealand in November.

Fast bowler Akash Deep returns after recovering from a stress fracture, and Anshul Kamboj has also been selected.

Mohammed Shami was left out, despite taking five wickets in a recent Ranji Trophy match.

India also dropped Manav Suthar, Saransh Jain and Gurnoor Brar, with the selections reflecting expectations about conditions in New Zealand.

The first Test starts in Wellington on November 19, and the second begins in Christchurch on November 27.

The series could affect India’s chances of reaching the World Test Championship final, and Rishabh Pant’s selection is subject to fitness.
