Indonesia to sell subsidized rice through village cooperatives at Rp12,500 per kg

Indonesia will sell subsidized rice through village cooperatives at Rp12,500 per kilogram to help people cope with rising market prices.

Food Affairs Coordinating Minister Zulkifli Hasan announced the plan during a visit to a cooperative in Kediri, East Java.

The government says one million tonnes of rice will be available nationwide.

Separately, 33.2 million people are set to receive rice assistance for October to December 2026, with 30 kilograms planned for each recipient in a single delivery.

The cooperatives are also intended to distribute subsidized fertilizer, cooking gas and cooking oil, as well as other government aid.

Officials and village leaders must check who qualifies so assistance reaches people who are entitled to it.

The cooperatives are still being prepared, and the government says it is checking for problems as operations develop.
