Beijing health plan adds 17 specialty drugs for 2027

Enrollment has opened for Beijing’s 2027 Huimin Health Insurance plan, a government-supervised commercial supplement to basic medical insurance.

The new year’s plan adds 17 specialty drugs, including treatments for lung cancer, myelofibrosis and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

It now covers 165 specialty drugs across 94 diseases, including some high-cost treatments that can cost more than 1 million yuan per course.

For these drugs, patients can be reimbursed for 35% or 65% of costs, depending on whether they had the relevant condition when they joined, up to a 500,000-yuan limit.

Unlike other covered expenses, specialty drugs have no deductible, and the plan also covers some costs left over after basic insurance.

The plan is open to eligible Beijing residents and basic-insurance members, with no age, household-registration, job or health-status restrictions; enrollment has grown steadily over five years.
