65-year-old man dies after being found in difficulty at sea in Spotorno

A 65-year-old man died after being found in difficulty at sea off Pluto Beach in Spotorno, on Italy’s Ligurian coast.

People on the beach spotted him shortly after 4:30 p.m.

and brought him ashore.

Bystanders and emergency crews tried to resuscitate him, but he did not survive.

The cause of death has not been established; a medical emergency is one possibility, while another account says other circumstances have not been ruled out.

Coast Guard personnel and carabinieri went to the scene.
