German electricity and gas network charges set to rise in 2027
Network charges for electricity and gas will rise on average in Germany in 2027.
For electricity, the average increase is 1.9%, adding about €8 a year for a three-person household using 4,000 kilowatt-hours.
A smaller federal subsidy is one reason electricity network fees are rising; the subsidy will fall by almost €1 billion to about €5.5 billion.
These fees pay for the networks that carry energy and appear as part of household bills.
Regional changes will differ: electricity fees rise most in Hamburg, while they are expected to fall slightly on average in eastern Germany.
Gas network fees are also expected to rise by about 3%, adding around €19 a year for a household using 20,000 kilowatt-hours; increases will be strongest in several regions, including Berlin and Hamburg.
Gas bills could rise more because suppliers face higher wholesale costs; an expert quoted in one report expects tariff increases of 10% to 20% around the start of 2027, depending on current tariffs.
German households will face higher electricity and gas grid charges on average in 2027, according to calculations by comparison portal Verivox.

Gas grid charges are expected to increase by about 3%, adding around €19 annually for a family using 20,000 kilowatt-hours.
The federal subsidy for electricity transmission grid costs will fall by nearly €1 billion to about €5.5 billion in 2027.
Verivox also expects gas suppliers to raise prices by 10% to 20% at the turn of the year as they pass on higher procurement costs.
