Busan plans third effort to guide shark Bucangi back to sea
Busan officials will try to guide shark Bucangi back to the sea from an artificial canal at North Port Waterfront Park.
The three-metre shark has stayed in the canal for more than a month since it was first seen there on Sept.
18.
Two earlier attempts failed: officials used water jets on Sept.
29, then nets on Oct.
2, but Bucangi returned to the canal.
Officials say no feeding has been observed, and experts are concerned that falling air and water temperatures could harm the shark.
The new plan uses nets, floating platforms and divers to steer Bucangi towards the open sea and block it from turning back.
Officials will check the underwater terrain and obstacles before setting up equipment and monitoring the shark during the operation.
The third attempt is planned for the morning of Oct.
21, but its outcome has not yet been reported.
Busan plans a third operation on October 21 to guide Bucangi, a blacktip shark, from a North Port waterway back to the sea.
The operation will use nets, floating work platforms and divers, with preparations including an underwater survey of the channel entrance.
Officials say the shark’s feeding has not been confirmed and falling air and water temperatures could harm its health.
Two earlier attempts to guide the shark out of the waterway failed.
Bucangi was first seen there on September 18 and has attracted large crowds to the waterfront park.
