Google reportedly rejects Trump request to rename the Atlantic Ocean

At a rally in South Carolina, Donald Trump said he asked Google to rename the Atlantic Ocean “Trump Ocean” or “American Ocean.”

He said Google CEO Sundar Pichai rejected the request, arguing that an ocean spans too many countries.

Google has not publicly confirmed the exchange, so the account comes from Trump.

Google Maps already uses “Gulf of America” for the Gulf of Mexico and “Lake America” for Lake Ontario for users in the United States, while other places may see different names.

Those earlier map changes followed US naming decisions, but private companies are not automatically required to adopt them.

The Atlantic’s name remains unchanged, and Google has not said whether it will take any further action.

The names used on maps could change later, since a future president or Google could revisit them.

Non, non, non. Cette fois-ci, je ne le ferai pas… Les océans, c’est différent, monsieur. Ils couvrent… de nombreux pays. Ne nous demandez pas de faire ça, s’il vous plaît
