Cyclist carries abandoned dog 5 km to safety in Goiás
Cyclist João Carlos Vieira found an abandoned dog on a dirt road in Goiás, Brazil, while travelling through the Cerrado.
The dog was weak and thirsty, and the temperature was about 37°C.
Vieira, who lives in Pedra do Indaiá in Minas Gerais, stopped and gave the animal water.
He carried the dog about five kilometres to Santo Antônio de Goiás because it could not travel safely on his bicycle.
At a café there, a woman offered to adopt the dog and provide care.
The woman took the dog in, Vieira later confirmed after returning to the town the next day.
The story drew attention online, and the dog found a new home.
