Viveros has 21 Brasileirão goals ahead of Athletico-PR-Palmeiras match
Athletico-PR hosts Palmeiras on Saturday in a Brasileirão match between two teams separated by 10 points in the table.
The game is part of the league’s 31st round and will be played at Athletico-PR’s Arena da Baixada.
Athletico-PR will look to Kevin Viveros, the league’s leading scorer with 21 goals in 28 games.
Palmeiras’ Flaco López has nine goals, while four other named players have seven, four, one and zero; those five players’ goals total 21, so the figures do not support the headline’s claim that Viveros has more.
Palmeiras has scored 52 league goals to Athletico-PR’s 49, and has a much stronger goal difference, 30 to 14.
Palmeiras next hosts Fluminense in the Libertadores on October 21, while its next league game is against Red Bull Bragantino on October 24; Athletico-PR next visits Vitória on October 24.
Kevin Viveros had scored 21 goals in 28 Brasileirão matches before Athletico-PR hosted Palmeiras on October 17.
His goal tally was higher than the combined total of five Palmeiras players cited by ESPN Brasil.
Palmeiras won the match 2-0 at Arena da Baixada, with Mauricio and Piquerez scoring in the opening 10 minutes.
The win took Palmeiras to 66 points and provisionally into first place, ahead of Flamengo on 64.
Athletico remained third on 53 points after the match.
