European archery body to lift restrictions on Russian athletes in 2027

World Archery Europe will lift restrictions on Russian competitors in events it sanctions.

The change takes effect on 1 January 2027 and covers Russian athletes, teams and officials.

Host-country laws, visa rules and instructions from public authorities may still affect participation.

Since 2022, Russian athletes have faced restrictions following recommendations by the International Olympic Committee, and some were allowed to compete only as neutral athletes.

The global archery federation made a similar decision in August, but that did not cover events run by the European body.

The decision means Russians can enter European archery events under WAE rules, while actual participation will depend on local requirements.
