Italpress Awards honor five Italians at Washington ceremony

The fourth Italpress Awards ceremony took place in Washington, DC, on October 18.

The awards, created by Italian news agency Italpress, recognize people who promote Italian achievement internationally.

This year’s five honorees included regional leader Attilio Fontana, diplomats Giorgio Marrapodi and Marco Peronaci, journalist Gianni Riotta and rail group head Tommaso Tanzilli.

The ceremony highlighted work across public service, diplomacy, journalism and infrastructure, as well as links between Italy and the United States.

Italpress founder Gaspare Borsellino said the agency has made more than 30 partnerships with foreign media organizations and expanded its US presence.

He said Italpress plans more overseas partnerships and new correspondent offices in strategic areas.

The awards are part of the agency’s wider effort to build its international reach.
