Man arrested after woman found dead in Cologne apartment

Police found a 39-year-old woman dead in an apartment in Cologne’s Junkersdorf district on Thursday evening.

Investigators say she had several stab wounds, and the 47-year-old man suspected of killing her is reported to be her husband.

The couple were living separately, according to reports.

The man had called his brother and told him something serious had happened; the brother went to the apartment and alerted police.

Police arrested the man and opened a murder investigation.

He was due to appear before a judge on Friday, who would decide whether to issue an arrest warrant.

The couple’s daughter was away on a school trip, and her school offered counselling support to students and staff.
