BP prepares to restart oil production at two Gulf of Mexico platforms
BP is working to restart oil production at its Na Kika and Thunder Horse platforms in the Gulf of Mexico.
The company had stopped production at both because of Hurricane Isaias.
It is also bringing non-essential staff back to its Argos, Atlantis and Mad Dog platforms.
The storm led producers in the Gulf to shut in about 68.76% of current daily oil output and 57.44% of daily natural gas output.
Staff were evacuated from 113 of the Gulf’s 371 staffed production platforms.
The wider shutdown shows how a storm can disrupt energy production in the region.
BP says it is working to resume production, but no timing is given.
