Wear OS 7.1 emulator previews a status bar planned for a later release

Google has released a Wear OS 7.1 canary emulator for developers to test upcoming software features.

Wear OS runs on smartwatches, and this preview is based on Android 17.

The emulator shows a system status bar inside apps, at the top of the watch’s circular display.

It is designed to show the time and system indicators, much like the status bar on Android phones.

The bar could let users check system information without leaving an app to return to the home screen or open quick settings.

Google says it will not be included in stable Wear OS 7.1; the company describes it as a feature for a later platform release.

Developers can test the early version, which currently uses a placeholder star instead of final status icons.
