Wuhan auto hub expands exports of Chinese electric vehicles

The Wuhan development zone is expanding its car exports as local manufacturers seek more overseas markets.

The area has 10 vehicle makers, 14 assembly plants and more than 1,400 parts companies.

Voyah, a Dongfeng electric-vehicle brand, now has sales outlets in 40 countries and regions, after first entering the Norwegian market in 2022.

The zone says its exports reached about 168,000 vehicles in the first half of the year, double the figure for the same period a year earlier.

New rail, river and customs links are designed to make overseas shipping easier, and customs changes have cut cross-border logistics costs by 30%, according to the report.

Dongfeng and Stellantis are discussing making Voyah cars in France at a Stellantis factory in Rennes.

The expansion matters because it combines vehicle sales abroad with plans for international production and technology cooperation.
