Rheinbach pasta maker Sassella enters insolvency

Pasta Sassella Tartero GmbH has entered insolvency proceedings after a court in Bonn opened the case on October 1.

The company is based in Rheinbach, near Cologne, and was founded in 1997 by two brothers who had run the Sassella restaurant in Bonn’s Kessenich district since the early 1990s.

The brothers built a pasta business from demand for their fresh products, which they make using a traditional bronze press.

The company supplies delicatessens, restaurants, hotels and supermarkets across Germany, including Rewe and Edeka.

The Sassella restaurant remains open and is not part of the insolvency; a family member now runs it after the brothers left the restaurant business in 2025.

The stated grounds for insolvency are inability to pay debts and over-indebtedness, but the causes and the number of jobs at risk are not known.

Creditors are due to discuss the case on November 17 at Bonn District Court, where they will consider how the proceedings should continue.
