Zurich pension fund pauses software switch after cyberattack

A cyberattack on Swiss software firm PK Softech in September led to the theft of data belonging to clients, including the Zurich City pension fund, PKZH.

PKZH had planned to move to a new system supplied by PK Softech in early 2027, but its board has now paused the change.

The fund will keep its current system running in 2027, and says members’ pensions and other benefits will continue as usual.

PKZH says it is reviewing the attack and will decide whether and when to introduce a new system after the findings are available.

The Swiss Federal Prosecutor’s Office is investigating, and the fund is in contact with the national data protection authority.

The attack also affected the federal pension fund Publica and the Migros pension fund.

The scale and consequences of the data theft remain unclear, while authorities continue their investigations.
