Boca and River meet with penalties, cards and goals in focus

Boca will host River on Sunday in the latest Superclásico, Argentina’s biggest club football rivalry, during the Torneo Clausura’s 15th round.

No Superclásico has had a three-goal winning margin since 2002, when River beat Boca 3-0 at the Bombonera.

Since then, the teams have played 57 official matches, all decided by two goals or fewer.

River has had more players sent off overall, with 80 dismissals to Boca’s 78, but Boca has had more red cards since 2012.

River has received more penalties in the rivalry, 46 to Boca’s 38, though Boca has won four of the five penalty shootouts between them.

Goals have come later in recent decades: the average time of the first goal has moved from minute 22 in the 1950s to minute 38 in the 2020s, and the teams meet again on Sunday.
