Dortmund players avoid Baku stadium showers after 2-1 win

Borussia Dortmund beat Azerbaijan’s Sabah 2-1 in a Champions League match in Baku.

After the game, Dortmund’s players left the Olympic Stadium without showering there and used the spa area at their hotel instead.

A reported concern about possible Legionella in the stadium’s water system was cited as a precaution, but no cases of contamination have been reported.

Dortmund sporting director Ole Book also said the hotel showers were more comfortable.

Coach Niko Kovac said the team had been told to shower at the hotel, while Sabah player Joy-Lance Mickels said his team had used the stadium showers and found them good.

The teams gave different accounts of the stadium’s showers, and Dortmund’s decision was not clearly attributed to the players themselves.

Dortmund’s 2-1 win earned it three points, taking its total to six, while Sabah remained on three.

I think the showers at the hotel were a little more welcoming. That is why we are trying to get the players there more quickly.

We showered there just last week, before the match against Slavia Prague. The showers are great and the water is not cold.
