Shekhar Suman recalls his son Aayush’s final days

Actor and television presenter Shekhar Suman recalled losing his son Aayush in a conversation with The Lallantop.

Aayush died at age 11 in 1995 after battling endomyocardial fibrosis, a rare, incurable heart condition.

Suman said his son spoke of seeing a golden light, recited Sanskrit verses and told his family he loved them.

As Aayush’s condition worsened, Suman’s wife asked doctors to let him go because she could no longer bear to see him suffer.

Suman said he was struggling to find work when his son became ill, and took a role in the television comedy Dekh Bhai Dekh to support his family.

He kept a telephone near him during filming so his family could update him about Aayush’s health.

The loss still weighs on the family, and Suman said they continue to talk about Aayush every day.
