Former employee builds tilapia farming business in Bogor

Lucky Pransisca left salaried work to build Makanila, a tilapia farming business in Bogor, West Java.

The farm raises fish in biofloc ponds, a method it uses to manage the growing environment.

Makanila has 50 ponds and can harvest up to 60 quintals of fresh tilapia.

Fish are typically ready for harvest about three months after the young fish are stocked.

Pransisca uses artificial intelligence to simulate feeding plans and track feed purchases and budgets.

She says this helps make feeding more even and controlled.

The fish are sold in Lampung, Java and Bali, and Makanila is seeking halal certification to help it enter modern retail and established restaurants.

The company is also nearing completion of a cleaner fish-processing facility and is developing catfish farming and an aquaponics garden.

What people are saying

If you only rely on memory, you often forget, and some fish may be fed repeatedly while others have not been fed. With AI, the results are better because feeding is evenly distributed and well controlled.
