Prosecutors seek a new Koldo case trial for 13 people
Spain’s anti-corruption prosecutors want 13 people tried in a branch of the Koldo case that has not been heard by the Supreme Court.
The case involves alleged wrongdoing linked to mask contracts and public-sector hiring during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Those prosecutors want former Transport Ministry aide Koldo García, businessman Víctor de Aldama and former Adif president Isabel Pardo de Vera among the defendants.
They allege that Pardo de Vera helped secure public-company jobs for Jésica Rodríguez, former partner of then-minister José Luis Ábalos, who is accused of receiving pay without working.
The proposed case also covers alleged dealings over mask purchases in the Balearic Islands and the Canary Islands, as well as suspected tax fraud and money laundering.
The accusations remain allegations, not findings of guilt, and prosecutors have asked for charges including influence-peddling, embezzlement and tax fraud.
Judge Ismael Moreno must decide the next procedural step; the request does not itself mean a trial has been ordered.
Spain’s Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office has asked a National Court judge to send 13 people to trial in an untried branch of the Koldo case.
The proposed case covers matters not heard by the Supreme Court, including alleged influence over public contracts, alleged money laundering and suspected tax fraud.
Those named include former Adif president Isabel Pardo de Vera, former Transport Ministry adviser Koldo García and businessman Víctor de Aldama.
The request also includes Jésica Rodríguez, Ábalos’s former partner, whom prosecutors accuse of embezzlement over public-sector salaries she allegedly received without working.
The judge, Ismael Moreno, must decide whether to move the case into abbreviated proceedings.

What people are saying
The evidence places Ms Pardo de Vera at the centre of this episode: she would have been the link that turned the Minister’s wishes into actual contracts.
Pardo de Vera contributed decisively to Rodríguez receiving pay without working and later being hired by Tragsatec.
