Four Gemini 4 Argon agents defeat Minecraft’s Ender Dragon

Four Google Gemini 4 Argon agents defeated Minecraft’s Ender Dragon, the game’s final boss, in a test by Google researchers.

They began in a randomly generated survival world with one goal and no assigned roles or game-specific tools.

Using the Mineflayer library, the agents controlled players by writing and running JavaScript programs rather than seeing the game as people do.

They coordinated tasks, shared advice and recovered from setbacks through in-game chat and shared memory, while researchers watched but did not intervene.

The run took more than 27 hours; the agents exchanged 229 messages, ran 2,783 programs and died 605 times.

The test highlights long-term planning and teamwork, abilities researchers say AI agents may need for real-world tasks.

It is not evidence that the agents play like people: they had access to game information hidden from human players, and a human speedrunner can finish in under seven minutes.
