Call of Duty film to explore the cost of war, director says

Director Peter Berg is making a Call of Duty film with a script by Taylor Sheridan.

The movie draws on the Modern Warfare games, whose characters include Captain Price, Soap, Ghost and Alex.

Berg says the story will look beyond weapons and fighting to the burdens carried by people sent into danger.

He describes the characters as complicated people and says the film will have a strong emotional core.

The film is expected to be less graphically violent than Berg’s Mosquito Bowl, though he says it will still show the consequences of war.

Its plot details have not been revealed, so it is not yet clear which events or characters will feature.

The movie is scheduled to reach cinemas on June 30, 2028.

These are very nuanced storylines; like, there's a real soul to the Modern Warfare universe…

really looking at the cost of war, the cost of having to be a warrior who's, for whatever reason, chosen to put himself between real danger and the rest of us, and the burden that these guys carry

This is not just 'Hey, let’s shoot them all up and shoot popcorn!' Like, there’s a soul underneath it, that I understand that Taylor Sheridan understands, and I think probably not quite as graphically violent as Mosquito Bowl, but there will be a very strong soul, and consequence of war within the film, called 'duty.'
