Lakers assign Bronny James to G League affiliate

The Los Angeles Lakers assigned Bronny James to their G League team on Thursday.

The 22-year-old guard had played in five games this season, averaging just 2.4 minutes and 0.8 points per game.

The Coachella Valley Lakers are the NBA team’s developmental affiliate, where players can get more playing time and work on their game.

James has played for the affiliate in past seasons, averaging 18.4 points across 25 G League games.

His father, LeBron James, now plays for the Philadelphia 76ers, so this is Bronny’s first season without him as a teammate.

Bronny’s Lakers contract is guaranteed only through this season, leaving his place on the team beyond that uncertain.

Coachella Valley opens its season Friday at home against the Salt Lake City Stars.

I thought he had a really nice September and a good summer with us, but I don't think he's played well in the four preseason games.
