Sonego and Bellucci qualify for Paris and draw each other
Lorenzo Sonego and Mattia Bellucci qualified for the Paris Masters in France after winning their final qualifying matches.
Sonego beat Paraguay’s Adolfo Daniel Vallejo 6-3, 4-6, 7-6(5), while Bellucci defeated Argentina’s Thiago Agustin Tirante 6-4, 6-4.
The two Italians were drawn against each other in the first round of the main draw.
Sonego had to save a match point in the third set before winning the deciding tie-break.
Their meeting makes seven Italians in the tournament, which is the final Masters 1000 event of the season.
Bellucci won their only previous meeting, at a Challenger event in Cagliari last spring.
The winner will face Arthur Rinderknech or Francisco Cerundolo in the second round.
