Vía Ágora chief says housing prices cannot rise indefinitely
Juan Antonio Gómez-Pintado, head of Spanish property group Corporación Vía Ágora, has called for restraint on housing prices amid Spain’s housing crisis.
He says prices cannot keep rising indefinitely without damaging the sector.
He also argues that industrialized construction is the future of building in Spain.
This means making more parts of homes, such as bathrooms, kitchens and façades, through industrial processes.
Gómez-Pintado says large builders have begun adopting these methods as the industry faces a shortage of construction workers.
He says the sector has 1.6 million workers, nearly 30% of whom are expected to retire within eight to ten years, with no younger generation ready to replace them.
Juan Antonio Gómez-Pintado, president of Corporación Vía Ágora, said housing prices cannot rise indefinitely.
He compared continued price increases to killing the goose that lays the golden eggs.
He said the future of construction in Spain lies in industrialisation, which he said has already begun.
He called for coherence among all parties, including business owners and developers, in responding to the housing crisis.
