China’s STAR Market firms report stronger forecasts and more buybacks
More than 20 companies on China’s STAR Market issued forecasts for the first nine months of 2026 by October 16, and improving profits were the main trend.
The STAR Market is a Shanghai-listed market for technology companies, including firms in fields such as semiconductors.
Chipmaker Changxin Technology forecast revenue of 265 billion to 270 billion yuan and net profit of 131 billion to 132.5 billion yuan for the period.
That would mark a return to profit after the company reported a loss in the same period last year.
Companies’ profit growth has been linked to higher-value products, increased production and demand from the AI computing supply chain.
Firms have also announced share buybacks and purchases by shareholders, which can return money to investors and signal confidence in a company.
Since the third quarter began, companies have announced more than 40 buyback plans and nearly 20 plans for shareholder purchases; the announcements give forecasts and planned actions, not final results.
More than 20 companies listed on China’s STAR Market had disclosed forecasts for the first three quarters of 2026 by the close of trading on October 16, with improving profits the dominant trend.
Changxin Technology forecast a return to profit, with net income attributable to shareholders of 131 billion to 132.5 billion yuan.
Eight companies announced new share-buyback plans from October 16 to 18, including Changxin Technology, Hygon Information and Montage Technology.
Since the third quarter began, STAR Market companies have announced more than 40 new buyback plans, with a combined maximum value of nearly 5 billion yuan.
Industry observers attributed improving results to higher-value products, expanded production, stronger demand from the AI computing supply chain and better yields.
