12-vehicle crash closes part of A-8 in Asturias

A 12-vehicle crash at the Somonte viaduct in Asturias disrupted traffic on the A-8 on Monday morning.

The crash happened near kilometre 384, on the road towards Galicia, and two vehicles caught fire.

Two people suffered minor injuries after inhaling smoke.

The Guardia Civil closed the road, causing queues that reached six kilometres and affecting nearby routes.

Drivers heading around Gijón also faced long delays, with some changing routes or being diverted.

The right-hand lane reopened during the morning, allowing traffic to move again.

One account said traffic later returned to normal, though another still reported queues in its latest update.
