Roche reports year-long results for eye drug Vamikibart
Roche has presented one-year results for Vamikibart, an experimental treatment for swelling in the center of the retina caused by uveitis, an eye inflammation.
The findings came from two phase 3 studies involving adults with the condition.
Participants received Vamikibart or a sham injection over 52 weeks.
In both studies, a higher share of those given Vamikibart improved their vision than in the comparison groups, and retinal swelling was reduced.
About two-thirds of patients did not need another injection after the initial treatment phase.
Vamikibart is not approved for use.
The US Food and Drug Administration has accepted Roche’s application and plans to decide by July 2027, while applications have also been filed in the European Union, China and Japan.
Roche reported 52-week results showing Vamikibart was associated with sustained vision improvement and reduced retinal swelling.
The results came from two identical Phase III studies, Meerkat and Sandcat, involving adults with uveitis-related macular edema.
In both studies, a higher proportion of patients treated with Vamikibart improved their vision than in the comparison group.
Around two-thirds of patients needed no further injection after the initial treatment phase.
Vamikibart is not approved, and the US Food and Drug Administration plans to decide on Roche’s application by July 2027.
