Busan demolition contractor fined after pedestrian was injured

A demolition contractor in Busan was fined 3 million won after a pedestrian was hurt at a work site.

The incident happened in July 2025, when workers were using a grinder at a building in the city’s Dongnae district.

Sparks startled a woman walking past, and she fell while trying to avoid them, tripping over metal frames left on the sidewalk.

She suffered a deep cut to her left leg and needed about three weeks of treatment.

The court found the contractor had failed to protect pedestrians, saying he should have used safety cones, fences or signs and assigned someone to direct people.

The judge also considered the injury, the lack of a settlement with the woman, and the contractor’s admission and remorse.
