European troops rehearse possible Ukraine deployment in Poland

Britain and France are leading a military exercise in Poland to prepare for a possible European deployment to Ukraine after the fighting ends.

About 2,800 personnel will take part from 11 or 12 countries; the accounts differ on the number.

The exercise, called Koalicja, runs from November 9 to 22 and will test how troops and supplies move, how forces work together, and how they are protected.

The planned force is meant to reassure Ukraine and help rebuild its armed forces, not to conduct offensive operations or monitor a ceasefire.

The United States has joined discussions but is not contributing troops, while Russia opposes foreign forces in Ukraine.

There is no confirmed deployment plan or final force size, and any decision would depend on how the war ends and on each country's political choices.

The exercise tests readiness for a possible mission, but Russia has shown no sign of wanting to end the war.
