Swiss parliamentary finance committee backs EU treaty funding
A Swiss parliamentary finance committee backed funding for the EU package known as Bilaterals III.
The committee supported credits totalling about 3.48 billion Swiss francs for 2030 to 2036, by 14 votes to 8, with 3 abstentions.
The funding covers Switzerland’s cohesion contribution, migration and an additional one-time cohesion payment.
The committee gave even stronger support to Erasmus+ funding, saying Swiss participation would help prevent isolation in education and research.
The package is complex and contested, and the committee said some questions remain.
It requested 13 reviews and reports from the administration for a meeting in mid-November.
The National Council’s foreign affairs committee examines the package next week, and the full council is expected to consider it in December.
