Lula could name six members of Brazil’s central bank board by end of 2027
Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva could nominate six central bank board members by the end of 2027.
Two board seats have been vacant since January, two more appointments could be made by February next year, and another two positions open at the end of 2027.

Brazil’s inflation target is 3%, with a tolerance range of 1.5 percentage points above or below that level.
The appointments must go to the Senate, and the market is watching for the choices and their policy views.

What people are saying
I cannot comment on something that is the prerogative of President Lula. What I can say is that I have maintained a very productive collaboration with the Finance Ministry and the Central Bank through my duties at the IMF.
This is an excellent moment in the IMF’s relationship with Brazil.
