125 reservists to hold two-day security exercise in Leiderdorp and Oud Ade
About 125 Dutch army reservists will conduct a two-day exercise in Leiderdorp and Oud Ade on Friday, October 30, and Saturday, October 31.
They will guard important buildings and services, patrol, spot suspicious activity and practise responding to incidents.
The exercise will take place at several undisclosed sites in Leiderdorp and in the Ghoybos, next to Leiderdorp, in Oud Ade.
Military jeeps will be on the streets, and some parts may use blank ammunition that can make noise but is not dangerous or damaging.
The exercise is meant to prepare troops for possible security threats, as well as help local authorities and emergency services know how to respond.
The army says the changing security situation in Europe makes this preparation important, since key sites could face disruption or sabotage.
Residents may watch from a distance, and the exercise will run during the day and, to a limited extent, at night, with security training continuing around the clock.
