TVE marks 70 years with a special edition of its evening news
TVE brought together 11 of its best-known news presenters for a special edition of its evening news on 19 October.
The programme marked 70 years of Spanish television news, ahead of TVE’s anniversary on 28 October.
The presenters looked back at events including the end of Franco’s rule, the attempted coup of 23 February 1981, ETA violence, the 1992 Olympics and the COVID-19 pandemic.
Their memories and archival footage showed how television news recorded moments that shaped Spain and reached millions of homes.
The programme also recalled the changing role of women in journalism and the growth of the feminist and LGBTIQ+ movements.
TVE’s anniversary is due on 28 October, though the special’s coverage of the broadcaster’s history has already aired.
TVE marked its 70th anniversary with a special edition of its evening news, titled El Telediario de nuestras vidas, on Monday, October 19.
The program brought together veteran presenters and journalists to revisit major events from seven decades of news.
Topics included the transition to democracy, the September 11 and March 11 attacks, the pandemic, the 1992 Olympic Games and the arrival of humans on the moon.
Pepa Bueno led the special, which was conceived and directed by Carlos del Amor.
The reports differ on its length: El Mundo says it lasted 45 minutes, while HOLA says it ran for 50 minutes.
