Indonesian Broiler Farmers Warn of Losses as Chicken Prices Fall
Independent broiler farmers in Indonesia are facing falling prices for the chickens they sell alive.
Live-chicken prices were reported at about 20,000–22,000 rupiah per kilogram, while production costs are estimated at 24,000–25,000 rupiah.
Higher feed prices are adding to their losses, with feed costing about 9,700–10,000 rupiah per kilogram.
A representative of Permindo, a group of 180 independent farmers, warned that its members could go out of business within two months if conditions do not improve.
Farmers want feed costs reduced and chicken prices raised to at least 24,000 rupiah per kilogram.
The agriculture ministry says it is supporting sales and adjusting production, while encouraging processing and cold storage to help absorb supply and improve prices.
Indonesian broiler farmers say falling live-chicken prices are below production costs and threaten their livelihoods.
Detik reported live-bird prices at Rp 20,000–20,500 per kilogram, compared with production costs of Rp 24,000–25,000 per kilogram.
A farmers’ group says higher feed costs are contributing to the squeeze and is calling for lower feed prices and a minimum live-bird price of Rp 24,000 per kilogram.
The Agriculture Ministry says it is supporting live-bird purchases, adjusting production and promoting slaughter and cold storage to improve prices and supply.

If this situation is allowed to continue, in two months all of us will go out of business.
The goal is to sustain farmers while ensuring that chicken meat supplies remain available.
